Dale Ball Trails (Spirited Beginner/Intermediate)
Located just 3 miles from our shop, easy to ride to, the Dale Ball trails are the locals’ favorite. Challenging, rolling and scenic, these are the trails you’ve read about in Bike Magazine, Dirt Rag and Mountain Flyer. The Dale Ball trails are an extensive network of intermediate to advanced singletrack tucked into the foothills above Santa Fe between 7400ft and just over 8500ft. Be prepared to climb as much as you descend, its fun and fast! Dale Ball is well marked, simple to get to from town, and easy to create a loop depending on fitness or time. Take on a piece, or the whole thing, its up to you. Hardtails, singlespeed and full suspension are all excellent choices for Dale Ball.
Atalaya #174 (Intermediate/Advanced)
Like to climb? We’re talking like straight up for a few miles…. If so Atalaya is all yours. Atalaya means “watchtower” in Spanish, and its easily understood once you reach the top. Prepare to gain 3,000ft in 3 miles, all over loose rock and tree roots. Enjoy the view from the top, and get ready for a smoking fast descent back to town. Gears help on this one.
Chamisa #183 (Intermediate/Advanced)
Located just inside the Santa Fe National Forest, the Chamisa trail is the route to the Winsor Trail for those riding up. We recommend that you ride Dale Ball to Hyde Park Road (Ski Basin Road/475), then ride up Hyde Park for 3 miles to the Chamisa Trail Head (its well marked and traveled). Chamisa starts at 8020ft, and climbs, before reaching the saddle intersection where you can drop into Winsor. If not heading onto Winsor, follow Chamisa back to the lot, and out.
Winsor #254 (Intermediate/Advanced)
The most well known trail around the Santa Fe area, Winsor is a first-class destination trail for bikers and hikers in the Santa Fe area. 3 climate zones, around 14 creek crossings, and 3,200ft of elevation change in 10 miles. You will come out amongst the aspens at the Santa Fe Ski Basin, and prepare yourself for an amazing 10 mile downhill. Winsor has connecting trails as well, Chamisa (#183), Borrego (#150), Bear Wallow (#180), and Big Tesuque (#152) access additional fun off the main trail.
Aspen Vista FR150 (Intermediate)
Aspen Vista is a high altitude 12 mile out and back. Double track forest service road, beginning at the picnic area at 10,000ft and in 6 miles, climbing to the radio towers atop Tesuque Peak at 12,043ft. Not technically challenging, but physically taxing.
Town To Towers (A La Vergas)
Inspired by those oversized steak dinners that we’re suckers for, you know the one if you eat the entire meal with all the fixins, you get a prize. Here’s our Santa Fe challenge. Ride from the shop to Dale Ball, Dale Ball to Hyde Park Road, Hyde Park to Chamisa, Chamisa to Winsor, Winsor to Big Tesuque, Big Tesuque to Aspen Vista, then up to the Towers. Take a photo of yourself at the top, and head down. We will be able to tell if you did it or not…..no fakers on this one. Get back to the shop, you get a t-shirt. Elevation, milage, heart rate, all that means nothing on this ride, simply can you do it?
