Mountain, dude.
After trying bike after bike, variety after variety, the truth was revealed:
Santa Fe is a challenging place to ride off-road.
Many first time visitors to the Land of Enchantment expect something more like Phoenix. Low desert, hot temperatures, big waving cacti. Not the case. We have a brilliant collection of off road trails MINUTES from the shop. The trails climb and descend in equal portions. Anyone expecting to ride in Santa Fe and not encounter a hill is kidding themselves. You will ABSOLUTELY ride up at least one hill while you are here. The good news is, the trails are in stunning condition, expertly maintained, and our private guide and map services are tremendous. The bike plays a critical role in anyone's riding experience, therefore we took the choices of bikes quite seriously. Our trails are challenging, but not rocky-cruel. Full-suspension is nice, it can tip the scale and give you that advantage at 7,000 feet. We always have "fresh" bikes - current model years. Our current fleet has been superb, and many clients return from their rides with "wows" and "these bikes ride great." After careful selection, we chose bikes that climb efficiently, twist through singletrack with expert ease, and descends like that crazy kid who grew up down the street. We also selected bikes that gave us the confidence to send out again and again without showing the ugly kind of wear that is so often associated with the dirty words, "rental bike."
Not so fine print: Rentals include your choice of platform pedals, toeclips or Shimano SPD pedals. Feel free to bring your own clipless pedals and your shoes that go with them! Its best to come fully equipped with your hydration pack & usual riding gear as mountain rentals do not include tubes or repair kits. Rental repair kits (tube, pump & levers) are available. Remember, there is no rescue service, and its always recommended to invest in a guide or one of our great maps available in the shop!

Road Bikes
Road bikes have become a complex choice. We often make the analogy that road bikes should fit like a tailored suit, whereas mountain bikes are more like blue jeans, wear them low on the hips, or tuck in your shirt - you decide. Imagine how difficult it is to provide rental road bikes that should be expertly fitted to a person we have only spoken to via email. Not an easy combination. As with many things at Mellow Velo, we opted for a classic choice of road bike to fulfill our needs. Coupling modern Japanese parts with the best damn reproductions of classic Italian frame designs, we found the magic bullet bike for our visiting clients and locals alike. Round-tubed steel bikes that sing arias as they glide, or for the more modern riders, all carbon race ready bikes are available. You will want to do your best Dave Stoller imitation from the movie Breaking Away while you coast down our heavenly roads. Certo!
Reservation & Cancellation Policy
We're busy year round at Mellow Velo, and its not unusual for us to run out of bikes. Reservations help insure that you will have a wonderful time exploring Santa Fe's great trails and roads. Feel free to call us at 505.995.VELO and we're more than happy to put a bike aside for a 24 hour or longer rental for you.
Before leaving the shop, all riders must sign a waiver and be paid in full. We will also go over the operation of the bikes, and help out with any sizing adjustments.
All rentals and reservations require a Visa, Mastercard or American Express number as a deposit on the reservation.
Our cancellation policy requires that you notify us 48 hours in advance to avoid rental charges. If you do not call to cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled rental, you will be billed for the first day of each bike reserved that we could have rented otherwise.
